Description

This rare piece was given out to members of Shearson Lehman Hutton by the New York Stock Exchange. The framed picture has an etching of the New York Stock Exchange building and the text reads, "An institution whose history dates back to 1792 and whose rules and regulations have been formulated for the purpose of maintaining high standards of honor among its members and for promoting and inculcating just and equitable principles of trade."

Features the printed signature of the Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange John J. Phelan (1984 - 1990).

Shearson was founded in 1902 and underwent several mergers with well known companies including American Express. They merged with Lehman Brothers in 1984 and then E.F. Hutton in 1988. They only retained the name Shearson Lehman Hutton from 1988 - 1990, making that memorabilia quite scarce.

Subsequent mergers included Primerica/ Citigroup and then finally Smith Barney and eventually the Shearson name got removed. Smith Barney would eventually merge with Morgan Stanley.
