Description Extended Information

This rare American Express Company stock certificate was issued in 1865 and signed by founder William G. Fargo and his partner Henry Wells (aka Wells Fargo). Nice uncancelled signatures. American Express was founded by Henry Wells, William G. Fargo and J.W. Butterfield in 1850 in Buffalo, NY. Just two years later, Wells and Fargo would also start Wells Fargo & Co. Together they founded two of the most iconic companies in American History.

Henry Wells signed as President and William G Fargo signed as Secretary. It was also signed by Alexander Holland as Treasurer who was the son-in-law of founder John Butterfield. The certificate was issued in 1865 when William G. Fargo would have also been serving as the Mayor of Buffalo, New York.

This American Express Stock Certificate was issued to Nancy H. Morgan of Hudson.
