This Chesapeake and Ohio Railway stock certificate was issued in 1972. The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway was formed in 1869 from the combining of several small railroads in Virginia.  The railroad operated independently until 1972 when the railroad combined with the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) and the Western Maryland Railway to form the Chessie System Inc..  During the 1980's the the group was acquired by CSX.  Issued in 1972.
