Description Extended Information

The Lone Star Gas Company, now Enserch Corp, was founded in 1909 as a pipeline company in Fort Worth. They built and transmitted natural gas to Dallas and Eastern Texas from the Petrolia Fields. At the time, this was one of the longest pipelines in the world. As Dallas's needs for gas grew, they expanded into Oklahoma in 1916. By 1942 they served over 1 million customers. They also broadened into oil and gas exploration and drilling.

Lone Star changed their name to Enserch in 1975 to better reflect their broadened operations. In the 1970s they purchased Halliburton's utility construction business and by the early '90s they had constructed over 1,000 power plants around the world.

This Rare Lone Star Gas Company Specimen Stock Certificate was printed in 1909.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
