The United States National Bank of Oregon was founded in 1891 as the U.S. National Bank of Portland. It changed its name in 1964 to the U.S. National Bank of Oregon. In 1969 they reorganized as a holding company to become U.S. Bancorp of Oregon. Through the 1980s and 90s the expanded rapidly throughout the U.S. acquiring many regional bank systems. U.S. Bancorp of Oregon would merge with First Bank System of Minneapolis in 1997. First Bank was the surviving company but they took the U.S. Bancorp name. They are the parent company of what is most commonly known as U.S. Bank.
